Supreme Court’s Hammer on Old Petrol-Diesel Vehicles in Delhi-NCR

     Supreme Court has banned old vehicles in Delhi-NCR from plying. It has banned the 15 year old petrol vehicles and 10 year old diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR due to pollution causes.

    In its direction, it ordered the authorities of the transport department to stop the operation of such old vehicles in the national capitol territory and seize the vehicle in case of disobedience.

     It termed the pollution situation in the NCR region “Very Critical” and “Horrible” and instructed to publish a list of 15 year old petrol vehicles and 10 year old diesel vehicles on the websites of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and transport department. The bench of Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Deepak Gupta has directed the authorities to publish an advertisement in the newspapers regarding the same. The bench also directed the CPCB to create a social media page through where the complaints van be lodged and actions can be taken by the authorities.

     The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also banned such vehicle from plying earlier in the NCR region. It has always been a concern the drastically increasing pollution in the NCR region. Every year, the region changes in gas chamber for few days. All the ranking institutions across the world are putting New Delhi on a very low ranked position.

    The government and the other law makers are consistently trying to pull the city from such a dangerous situation. But there are many factors due to which the efforts are not working properly on the ground.
